The cabin and garage are situated nicely into the setting. Old-growth cottonwoods, riverside marshes and native sage were carefully preserved during construction. The steep pitch and thickened fascia define the roof, while hips and valleys add drama, and a mid-level keeps the house from looking too high and protects the logs from snow and rain. Wide overhangs also protect the logs from sun and precipitation.

Alpine Log Homes' design gave them all of that and more.

A stand of pines shields the cabin from other structures in the compound. The cabin is surrounded by 300 trees that the owners planted on the once-barren site.

On the downhill side of the house, a stone terrace was chosen instead of a deck and slabs of local sandstone were used for the hearth, flooring in several areas, and for the grotto shower in the master suite.
